Event Overview

Looking for something fun and relaxation?

This Haiku class could help you find your inner Zen.

A traditional Japanese haiku is a three-line poem with seventeen syllables, written in a 5/7/5 syllable count. Often focusing on images from nature, haiku emphasizes simplicity, intensity, and directness of expression.

In this class you will use exercises based on word play to unlock your hidden gems. Sparking your imagination as you explore the philosophy of haiku has been preserved: the focus on a brief moment in time; a use of provocative, colorful images; an ability to be read in one breath; and a sense of sudden enlightenment and illumination

When you have decided which is your favorite one ~ you will have an opportunity to transfer your Haiku on to a piece of high quality watercolor paper and add your own personal details to enhance your newly created art.

Relax and enjoy the art of Haiku poetry while creating several of your own personal Haiku to experience the legacy.

Tea and coffee will be provided to get those creative thoughts flowing.

The class ended up being just my husband and I. It had the potential to be a little awkward with only the two of us, however it was great! Our instructor was very pleasant and encouraging. He created a space where we could be comfortable trying something new.

Love classes with John-Michael. I've taken the calligraphy class and recently took the haiku class. It was super laid back, creative, and fun. We worked on this elementary school type work sheet, putting words in a grid, and then drafting haikus. It was really effective at making you think outside the box/get off a certain train of thought. I always leave Flying Dolphin feeling relaxed and confident. It's awesome.
