MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Andrea Horyn, owner and instructor at Bughouse Studio, has taught art ever since graduating from DePaul University in 2004 with a degree in art education. As a seven-year teaching veteran at Ogden Avenue Elementary School in La Grange, she has worked with students of varying ages and abilities and has always inculcated her students with a deep passion for artistic expression. Upon obtaining a Master’s of Art in Art Education from the Art Academy of Cincinnati in 2009, she knew she wanted to pursue her dream of opening an art studio where she could share her expertise and enthusiasm with burgeoning and experienced artists alike.

John Burkholder has been working in the ceramic medium for over a decade. In 2005, he moved to Chicago to pursue an interest in clay and other arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he earned his BFA with a focus in ceramics. His attraction to the material is for its’ physicality, history and the absolute transformation of the wet clay into fired and glazed form. He maintains a practice in painting, performance and other forms of sculpture at his studio on Chicago’s west side. He currently works at Defibrillator performance art gallery in Wicker Park.
