Have you always wanted to learn how to sew but afraid to touch a sewing machine? Or wonder why your hungry sewing machine keeps eating your projects and jamming? Let me help you get started and make you feel comfortable using a sewing machine, or help you finish your projects!

Private sewing lessons are a great way to master your sewing skills quickly! Whether you are a beginner, or have a project that you're working on, you can book as many hours as you'd like, and add more later! We recommend that you book at least 2 hours/session. Please email Marie at trixyxchange@gmail.com after you purchase your hours to schedule your private lesson(s). Private lessons are available most days between the hours of 10am-8pm.

Where: Trixy Xchange - 1579 N. Milwaukee Ave., Studio #232 Chicago, IL 60657 (Wicker Park)
Cost: $30/hour
Prerequisite: None
Minimum Age: 18. Students under that age of 18 must have their parent's written permission to use a sewing machine.
Trixy Xchange will Provide: Expert instructions, sewing machines, cutting tables, basic notions, basic tools, and fabric for mock-ups

Things we could explore:
Parts of the sewing machine including various stitches, accompanying pressure and tension, and how to change your presser foot
How to thread your sewing machine and wind your bobbin
Seam allowances
Seam finishes and hems
Sewing and drafting darts with transfer paper and a tracing wheel
Installing zippers
How to layout and cut your fabric with a pattern
How to pin your pattern and fabric together correctly
Reading and following commercial patterns

Instructor: Trixy is the owner and designer of Trixy Xchange. She specializes in costumes and upcycled clothing. She believes in taking care of the world that we inhabit, and therefore creates a generous amount of designs that are upcycled from clothing and materials that are donated to her studio! It's a creative challenge that she has embraced, which also keeps her designs fresh, beautiful and eco-friendly.

What to Bring

Please bring any sewing projects they'd like to work on. If you are a beginner, just please bring yourself to the first session! We will provide the sewing machines.

Marie was awesome! I learned a lot during our 2-hour class. She focused on the things that I wanted to learn and shared her tips and tricks that make sewing easier.
