Event Overview

Learn the fundamentals of mold-making with plaster and algenate life casts. Students will be able to take flexible algentate molds of their own body parts and create life-like plaster castings from these molds that can be painted, decorated, and combined to become works of art.

Objectives
1) Learn principles of basic mold making and plaster/algenate mixing techniques
2) Produce 1 or more finished life-casts to take home.
3) Learn painting, staining, and sealing techniques for plaster.
4) Increase knowledge of 3-dimensional/sculptural composition
5) Develop 3D spatial problem solving skills through the execution of ideas.
6) Have fun!!!

What to Bring

1) Clothes that can be destroyed/apron/smock

1) Plaster and plaster bandages 2) Algenate 3)Mixing tubs 4) A limited supply of paint and stain 5) Putty knives for mixing and spreading 6) Petroleum jelly to prevent algenate frome sticking to hair

Jesse Berlin has been a professional sculptor and sculpture teacher since 2013. He has taught college level sculpture course, k-8 art classes, and given private lessons. Jesse first began making molds and life-casting in middle school, and has spent the 20 years since becoming a master mold maker. Much of his current artwork relies heavily on advanced silicone and polyurethane molds which he uses to create incredibly intricate and lifelike sculptures, featuring human and animal anatomy.
