Event Overview

The recession of 2007-2010 ushered in a new era of economic uncertainty, which has left Americans feeling unsure of their financial future. Though some financial advice of the past still stands true today, changing market dynamics requires more prudence and awareness than ever before.

In this class, attendees will learn about the various investment instruments, including: stocks, corporate/government bonds, mutual funds, ETFs, options/futures, IRAs, annuities, and commercial bank accounts. They will learn the ins and outs of trading stocks and bonds through traditional stock brokers and through self-managed online brokerages such as E-Trade, TD Ameritrade, and ScottTrade. They will learn important terminology such as earnings per share (EPS), bid/ask, market order, limit orders, stop orders, good-til-cancelled orders, margin trading. The course will educate participants on the various financial instruments available in the marketplace, how to determine their own risk profile, and recommendations for moving forward.

The structure will be a crash course at the beginning and then will be more interactive, prompting the participants to ask and answer questions and determine what makes the most sense for their circumstances.
