Event Overview

Building and preserving muscle is the best way to real fitness. At CityWide SuperSlow, our training protocol is the SuperSlow® technique, which involves lifting and lowering the weights over a 20-second time-frame. This slow approach eliminates acceleration and momentum, working the muscles more effectively and safely. Muscles are worked to the point of failure using challenging resistance and a minimum number of repetitions.

As we age, we lose muscle. The only way to stop or slow this process is through strength training. No matter your age, you can benefit from stronger muscles. It's the musculature that allows you to ride a bike, lift a suitcase, or get out of a chair. With strength training you will increase your overall functional ability. Strengthening your muscles will also help you live a healthier life and age more gracefully.

Join us at our gym, to learn about the benefits of the SuperSlow protocol. When we are done with our presentation, you will understand how you can have a total body workout in just 20 minutes a week. You will learn why walking is a pleasant experience, but it won't do much for your health. You will realize that cardio should be secondary to weight-lifting in a fitness routine. Finally, you will learn why exercise, instead of being a volume activity, should be brief, infrequent, intense, and SAFE.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Keith Morton has been a student of exercise for 50 years. From his first set of weights at twelve years old, to becoming an avid runner, including many marathons and many 10Ks, Keith has always been fit. However, during his forties things started to decline: structural issues, hip pain, knee problems, and weight gain. All began either in spite of or because of many hours of exercise per month.

In 1998, while in an airport, he read a little piece on the concept of slow, intense exercise. That stimulated interest in research. Lots of reading and speaking to consultants, in addition to declining physical health, led him to experiment with the SuperSlow® protocol as his only form of exercise. He went from working out 40 hours a month to less than two.

Tremendous success followed. Injuries went away. Weight loss. Energy. Plus the added benefit of much more time to read and pursue his interests. This experience was so dramatic that his entrepreneurial instincts kicked in. He recognized that there wasn't a single facility that provided this kind of exercise in the city of Chicago. He then proceeded to open CityWide SuperSlow® in July 2002.
