Event Overview

One of the most powerful things about visual art is that it tells a story, whether its aesthetically pleasing or not. Art Journaling is the perfect blend of the written word as well as a safe space for meaningful self-expression.

What stories are stirring in your soul? Not sure, but always wanted to hear what all the hype about art journaling, creative writing and self-expression is about?

There's something in this workshop for everyone!

Learn techniques to create backgrounds with color and texture in your own art journal while using creative writing prompts to evoke those stories held deep within.

No formal art or writing experience required. Cost $45

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

VersAnnette Blackman is an artist, writer, advocate and healing arts practitioner. She has 10+ years as a trauma informed facilitator, in various settings. For nearly 6 years she worked with a literary arts organization where she facilitated poetry, art & book group discussions with youth in various high schools in Chicago. In 2013, she launched a non-profit organization (H.E.M) an acronym for Heal, Empower, Motivate whose mission is to use art and creative writing to help survivors heal and find their voices.

Most recently she was awarded the Peggy A. Montes "Unsung Heroine Award" by the Cook County Commission on Women's Issues. Whether teaching in a classroom, or homeless shelter, VersAnnette is passionate about art as a means for healing, self-discovery and empowerment.
