Event Overview

Everyone has a story they want to tell. What's yours? Whether you're a beginning writer or have never written a story before it's time to get your story on the page, but we won't stop there. From first draft to the final revision this series will help you craft your story and get it ready to submit for publication. For purposes of this series, students will be working on FICTION only.

There will only be FIVE spots in this series in order to create an intimate group of writers, allow time for in-session writing and feedback. I will also provide some feedback between sessions to each individual writer and expect the writers to share with one another between sessions as well. Writers are expected to work on their pieces between sessions.

Session 1 - Thursday, May 8 : Getting a story on the page.
Session 2 - Thursday, Jun 12: Focusing on character development, place, movement
Session 3 - Thursday, Jul 10: Revision
Session 4 - Thursday, Aug 14: Final revision due; discuss submission process, where, how

Cyn Vargas' debut short story collection, On The Way, is forthcoming from Curbside Splendor Publishing in Spring 2015.

Cyn holds an MFA in Creative Writing- Fiction from Columbia College Chicago. She is the winner of the 2013 Guild Literary Complex Prose Award for Fiction. She has, also, received a Top 25 Finalist award & an Honorable Mention award in Glimmer Train's Short Story Award for New Writers contests.

Her work has appeared in Word Riot, Split Lip Magazine, Hypertext Magazine, and elsewhere. She writes because it's her way of legally exposing herself in public.

Cyn is awesome. I didn't really know what I was getting myself into when I signed up for this class, but I am so glad I did. Cyn helped me with story ideas that I already had as well as give me new ideas for writing material. Since everyone typically has different schedules and things going on, Cyn helps you at your pace while still trying to push for deadlines. Cyn has opened up a lot more opportunities for me than just writing.
