Arts & DIY
In this workshop, printmaker and book artist, Kim Morski will introduce three variations on a Japanese stab binding. Each student will make three small books with the following stab binding techniques:
- Basic 4-Hole Binding
- Hemp Leaf Binding
- Tortoise Shell Binding
The class will be taught in the beautiful setting of the new Queen City General Store in the Capitol Hill neighborhood!
This is a great class for a first-time book binding experience, or for students who have taken Intro to Bookbinding: Sewn & Non-Adhesive Bindings. The class will begin with a short talk on the history of the Japanese stab binding, before students make their books. Students will prepare each book for binding by measuring and punching holes according to the correct pattern. Finally, students will sew their books according to the design.
Handy instructional sheets and supply source lists will also be provided, so you can put your new skills to use and continue making sewn books after the workshop!
All ages welcome
All materials will be provided: paper, awl, sewing needle, linen binding thread
