Intro to Printmaking: a Valentine Card Workshop
TOP RATED
8 Have Dabbled
Arts & DIY
This Valentine card making workshop with printmaking artist Kim Morski will be a fun introduction to linoleum cut block printing. Each student will design, carve, and print their own 4" x 6" linoleum block to make a set of 10 personalized Valentine's Day cards with envelopes.
The workshop will lay a basic foundation for relief printing, including: how to use carving tools, the printing process, preparing paper for printing, and how to use a manual etching press. Additionally, we will cover hand printing techniques, so students can continue to print their linocuts by hand even if they do not have access to a press.
Students of all skill levels are welcome!
Although this is a Valentine's Day card workshop, students are welcome to create any design they want. ;)
Instructor will have some templates for anyone who gets stumped coming up with their own design.
Workshop Schedule: This class meets once for 3 hours
Prerequisite: This is a total beginner's class - no previous experience necessary
Minimum Suggested Age: 13+
Students should bring a sketch of the design they want for their card. Think bold, graphic, and simple. If you include text, it should be quite large. Most important, remember that whatever you print will be the reverse image of how you carve it!
All ages welcome
All materials and tools will be provided! Each student will receive a pack of 10 blank cards and envelopes to print, along with test paper to make practice prints.
