Event Overview

Are you fascinated with coffee? How a cherry grown in a far off land gets picked, husked, sorted, washed, dried, packed, shipped, unpacked, roasted, ground, added to water, then consumed by millions of people a day? Want to try your hand at roasting some yourself?

Kaladi Coffee Roasters have been roasting coffee since 1986. We are pretty good at it. Come learn the basics of coffee roasting, and how you can learn a pretty cool hobby that's easy to get into and oh-so-rewarding.

You will leave with a basic understanding of the coffee roasting process, what to look for to know when your coffee is done, what professionals look for in selecting green beans, and a free pound of Kaladi Coffee to inspire you to greatness.

Mark Overly is the owner and "Coffee Boss" at Kaladi Coffee Roasters in Denver, Colorado. Mark founded Kaladi Brothers Coffee in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1984, and has been roasting and tasting coffee ever since. He's been featured in countless publications, and works as a consultant to other roasters.

    Fantastic class … Mark has a long history in the business, is very knowledgeable about all aspects of coffee and is happy to let the class go in any direction - our agenda was his agenda. Throw in the experience of roasting different batches of the same origin coffee beans from too light to too dark and then tasting the results, and it was definitely a great use of $25 and 2+ hours of my time. Would highly recommend this for anyone interested in learning anything about coffee, but especially roasting of course.

    We had so much fun at this class! It was a hands on experience and we learned a lot about coffee: origins, roasting, tasting, etc. We met some really fun people and it was such a great way to spend our Saturday afternoon. Thank you!

    The class was super informative and helped me gain a greater appreciation for the coffee I drink. We're excited to start roasting coffee ourselves. It also introduced us to a fantastic roaster locally!

    The class was excellent. Practical information for the home roaster including sources for green beans and home roasting equipment. Excellent also for people like me who wanted to know about the roasting process. I would highly recommend this class.

    Excellent experience! Mark is clearly well-informed and experienced. His class was a very thorough explanation (both conceptual and practical) that left me wanting more. I would definitely recommend any of his classes.

    Informative, entertaining and most of all local! Love the Kaladi....Mark is superb at teaching about everything coffee, while regaling us with stories of his many exploits worldwide.

    Mark was amazing. His knowledge and enthusiasm for his craft are simply unparalleled. The class went on way longer than anticipated and nobody wanted to leave! It was amazing to learn about all the steps involved at every level of the process. And, to top it off, Trieste is simply the best espresso blend I've ever tasted, and I've lived all over the world. And to boot, Mark is hugely entertaining! Hats off- job well done!

    I personally did not enjoy this class. It was held in a small dirty space with no windows or chairs. The person who instructed us was knowledgable and even though I enjoyed listening to him I could not stand the room we were in so I left after one hour
