Event Overview

Training for your first triathlon - of any distance - doesn't have to feel like teetering between life and death. In this course, I'll introduce how to plan and train for your big race so you can ENJOY EVERY MINUTE of it - not just the race, but the training part too! Cliche as it seems, it's as simple as 1-2-3.

1. Planning your training: we'll introduce how to fit your training into your life, not your life into your training, We'll talk about intensity vs. time, heart rate monitoring and, most importantly, scheduling your weeks to easily get in those long runs and long rides.

2. Gear and nutrition: for many people, this is either the most fun part, or the worst part of training. Everyone is different, so finding the right gear and nutrition are a totally personal journey. You'll learn about what gear is must have, what is options but recommended, and what is just a waste of money. Regarding fuel, we'll talk about how to get enough fuel, but not too much, and how to test your body to learn what works best for you.

3. Race day preparation and strategy: with so much time and energy spent training, race day planning is easy to overlook. We'll discuss how race day flows - from when you get up, to how you set up your gear in transition, to how to pace each leg of the race.

You'll leave class with a guide for creating your training plan, your gear list and nutrition testing plan, and a worry-free race day outline in hand.

Make your race an incredible experience!

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Alex remembers his first triathlon all too well - he was terrified! All the "what ifs". "What if I don't finish, what if I crash on the bike, what if I bonk on the run." Five years, 25+ races and 3 podiums later Alex realizes that it didn't have to be that way.

They say, once you Tri, you'll never go back. It's addicting in its complexity and nuance, yet almost zen-like in experience. Training for a triathlon can be either horribly difficult or incredibly rewarding (and anywhere in between). Alex's goal is to help others avoid the bad side of training, and to open the door to all the rewarding and exciting parts of the sport of triathlon from training to gear to nutrition to racing. His style is one part coach, one part mentor, one part therapist. Everyone is different in their skills and goals, and Alex believes in helping each person find that best path to their own definition of success.
