Learn and experience a step by step demonstration of a real 1930's Chandler and Price letterpress in action - we call her "Miss Hazel". You will learn the start to finish process of how a project is printed with tips to design effectively for quality letterpress output if that is your goal.

This class is great for calligraphers, graphic designers, artisans, history buffs, printmaking, and marketing professionals. Also anyone generally interested in the history and modern-day brilliance of letterpress printing. It is a fun and interesting process to witness and includes letterpress cards and one of our sachets which are also printed on the letterpress.

We have been doing these demonstrations mostly during the summer months at Idea Chíc. We love hosting other creative and curious people; it is a healthy experience for all.

You will leave with letterpress stationery, greeting cards and a sachet, the skills to create print-ready designs and we hope creative inspiration to chase your dreams.

Idea Chíc designs and makes social stationery in Glendale, CO since 2009.

Note: there is a small batch coffee roaster across the courtyard from Idea Chic.

What to Bring

Nothing required but many people tend to take notes so bringing your own materials to take notes. The event is 1.5 hours, you may want to bring water. There is a coffee shop across the courtyard if you want to come early.

What's Provided

Lots of info and a letterpress stats related handout to take home. Nothing required but many people tend to take notes so bringing your own materials to take notes. You will also leave with letterpress stationery equal in value to the cost of the event.

Julie and David Sandusky are the founders of Idea Chic. Julie launched JS Design in 2003 creating custom wedding invitations and products. They expanded to retail shipping product daily and globally and can be found in select boutique shops under the Idea Chic brand. They are open about how they operate business and love to share success and lessons for others to learn. David has taught entrepreneurship classes at the college level as well as significant workshop and hands-on public speaking.

I loved the letterpress demo at Idea Chic! It was great to hear about the history of the Idea Chic letterpress and witness it in action. I had my own house and a full bank account, I'd buy one! The shop was super cute and the hospitality was even better! David and Julie were amazing and it was great seeing them work as a team. They had great stories to share and it was overall a lovely experience. :)

Very engaging instructors! I took a friend of mine and it was a great way to spend an hour and a half! After the class, we ended up buying a lot of stationary (hard to pass it up!)

David and Julie were extremely knowledgeable about the letterpress process and they had some great stories to tell about it along the way! The demo was very informative and fun and the class size was small so there was a lot of time to ask questions and get up close with the process. David and Julie are such sweet people who obviously love what they do and want to share it with others. I would highly recommend this class!!

Really enjoyed this demo. I loved seeing Julie and David's teamwork and process in addition to their shop. They walked us through start to finish on a job and answered any questions we had come up. Being a printmaker myself, I loved being able to talk to them about the process and getting more in depth. They also sent us home with some nice stationery! Made me excited to get back to printmaking myself. Also, the group size was limited to 4 which was perfect. I'll be on the look out for other workshops from them in the future!

The place was a little difficult to find, at first, I thought my GPS took me to the wrong location because it wasn't in the little row of shops visible from the parking area. But there is a more hidden middle section so just follow around the corner past that row of shops. It's quite a cute little area once you figure it out and the print shop is tidy and thoughtfully designed. The class was really interesting and very well organized. I was completely unfamiliar with the letterpress process and it was fascinating to learn about it and see the beautiful old press named "Hazel" in action. Julie and David did a great job explaining the process and I left with new knowledge, resources and a fun swag bag which was a wonderful bonus. Thanks!

So happy I signed up. David and Julie were well prepared, the class was organized to include discussions and demonstrations of a wide range of both the technical and business aspects of letterpress. Handouts and samples were included. Wonderful to see two creative young folks build their dream around this art form. They designed and carried out this lovely class in the same deliberate and caring way they likely run their business. I wish them much success!

David and Julie are amazing and passionate Letterpress business owners and designers. Their attention to detail and quest for perfection make them unique. The class touched on everything from design to the basics of taking care of such a magnificent piece of equipment. There was never an awkward or boring moment and no question was too silly. The only downside was that it felt too short! Time flies when you're having fun (and learning something new!)
