Event Overview
Join us at Uvae Kitchen & Wine Bar in Andersdonville and enjoy amazing Specials while you learn hands-on how to make all natural soap from a professional soap maker! This is a great workshop for anyone who wants to better understand what makes all natural products different from most commercial brands & how soap is made from scratch using the cold-process method.
Learn the art and science of soap making while you gain a better understanding of natural ingredients vs synthetic ones, and leave with the ability to make your own soap at home. Each student will choose a scent, or create their own custom blend, and make approximately one pound of soap to take. Safety tips, as well as a beginner's soap recipe, will be provided.
*Soaps can take a few weeks to 'cure' so plan accordingly.
Availability can be extremely flexible to accommodate your group schedules! If a different date, time or location would be more convenient or you don't see dates listed online, please let me know and we will set up a time that works best for you!
Private Events can be created for groups or individuals and workshops can be combined/customized with additional product making to create your own unique event! Email hello@realsoaps.com or click the "Message Teacher" Tab below for event requests.

What to Bring
You will need to bring a towel & a paper/plastic/tote bag to take your soap home in. The towel will cushion and insulate the soap for travel and overnight. Wear comfortable clothes you wouldn't mind getting dirty!

I will provide all materials including aprons, goggles & gloves. Just bring a towel & a bag from home!

I make every product in small batches with intention & care, and with my own two hands. My company is called Real. Soaps because many "soaps" are not actually soap; they're detergent. The chemicals in them make them far less than natural, and some are potentially dangerous. Sadly, it is this way with a lot of products, so I learned how to make them myself with REAL ingredients. I am self taught and since the beginning have been focused on taking what I have learned and sharing it with people so they can make smarter choices about the products they use. Real. Soaps products can be found in over 40 locations, including West Elm & The Chicago Botanic Garden.

Shamus has great energy !!
I had a great time learning and making Beeswax candles in this class.
What I took home had a great scent but not overpowering!

I could talk to him forever about "stuff" and he'd totally get it. He shares important dos and don'ts; he teaches based on his knowledge and his mishaps so we can avoid making mistakes in the future. This is my second class with Shamus and if he teaches a class on another subject I'd sign up. He is that awesome!

What a great fun and great experience. I loved every minute and can't recommend enough. I learned everything i need to know to start making candles at home. Schemes is an excellent teacher and mentor. His classes are laid back but you learn a lot and Schamus will gladly answer all of your questions. Thank you for this experience!

Fantastic class! Shamus is a great teacher, very easy going. He is extremely knowledgeable about the candle making process and answered all of our questions. We had a great time, made a beautiful and eco-friendly product that I've loved using at home. I highly recommend his classes!
