Event Overview

Swing dancing in St. Louis is a must. It's widely known as the city of Blues and Swing and knowing how to dance to all of that live music when you go out dancing just makes your night with your sweetie even better! Join us for a basic swing class where you and your partner will learn the basic steps, how to rotate the basics, and simple spins for the lead and follower!

Robert McKenney was born into a dancing environment. He grew up around the idea that people danced together in an embrace to music of many different origins. He decided at 16 that he wished to participate in dancing largely due to the interesting people and cultures that he encountered through the art and practice of dance. He began his studies with his mother at age 16 and in a short time was assisting in classes. Robert has studied worked with expert teachers in the U.S. as well as several master teachers in Argentina who have shaped and influenced Argentine tango and Latin dance. Robert has traveled to Argentina three times, has assisted on the annual Convergence Dance and Body Centers tours to Buenos Aires. He even taught at the National Academy of Tango in Buenos Aires for 5 weeks in August of 2013. He has immersed himself in the culture and dance world of Buenos Aires by studying with the best teachers around. In addition he has studied the art of teaching and structure of dance from his mother Roxanne Maier and Daniel Trenner. Robert has an incredible fundamental knowledge of social dancing that is unique for his years, plus a cultural knowledge of Argentina and the Spanish language. Robert now teaches year-round classes with his partners Roxanne Maier and Marisol Badillo. He has taught workshops which cover everything from fundamentals and technique to advanced level tango in St. Louis and has also taught at workshops in the mid west like UMKC. He is also certified to teach Argentine folkloric dance. He is a young man with an incredible fundamental and technical knowledge of social dancing that is unique for and because of his age. In addition to teaching, Robert has danced and performed all over the United States and Argentina and regularly performs in the St Louis area. He has danced everywhere from the popular, historic Muny Theater to Busch Stadium in front of thousands of people, as well as performing regularly in the St. Louis area.
