This class is an introduction to a combination of kinetics, robotics, and circuit design. You will construct two small scale robots that engage the principles of BEAM – Biology, Electronics, Aesthetics, and Mechanics.
After designing sculptural chassis for your robots with cold joining techniques, you will then learn the basics of designing and building a solar powered circuit to control small motors that will give your robotic creations the ability to move and navigate an environment.
No prior experience with metalsmithing or electronics is required. Ages 16 and up are welcome to register.

Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design is a nonprofit organization that has focused on bringing the best of contemporary craft to the St. Louis community for 50 years. Craft Alliance employs talented working artists to teach classes across many artistic disciplines, including ceramics, metals, fiber, 2D arts, and more. The Delmar Loop Metals Studio provides an excellent facility to learn a variety of metalworking techniques.
Jacob Francois has an MFA from the University of Nebraska and a BFA from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Jacob was recently the Sculpture Artists-in-Residence at the Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute in Utica, New York.
