Event Overview

This workshop will teach the basics about growing in a hydroponic system as opposed to soil, and provide an in-depth look at the Tower Garden hydroponic system: everything from how to set it up, maintain it, what to plant, and how much bounty to expect. These vertical growing systems are perfect for roof tops, balconies and patios where space is limited. Maintenance is minimal, the plants grow faster than in soil, and they use 90% less water.

Come to the FOOD ROOF Farm and see our towers in action! Last year we tested out three Tower Gardens on the rooftop and they were such a success that we are adding more. We had fresh greens all summer long from our Towers!

You do not need any gardening experience to get started with this system - it's that easy!

About the Educator:
Michele Rogers is a nutrition, health and wellness professional assisting people to live healthier lifestyles. Her experience with Tower Gardens goes back many years and she is an advocate for this simple method of growing healthy food.

Urban Harvest STL

Top rated icon TOP RATED

Urban Harvest STL empowers communities to cultivate equitable access to healthy, sustainably grown food and enhance biodiversity in cities. We envision vibrant cities where under-utilized spaces are transformed into productive urban farms which restore natural ecosystems and engage people of all ages to create stronger, more nourishing bonds with each other - and with nature.

We built the first rooftop farm in the St Louis, the FOOD ROOF Farm, atop a building downtown. The FOOD ROOF Farm is a unique, innovative project and a platform for urban agriculture and sustainable design. This project serves as a catalyst to improve overall health and well-being of our community.

Mary is fabulous and knowledgable. The team that presented the hydroponics class were very knowledgable and passionate about food to table methods and sustainability. The only downfall, and perhaps my fault for not doing my homework, was that this was less of a class on the process and more a sales-pitch for the product. Had I known that I'm not sure I would have paid and gone.
