    Coffee Roasting Basics

My husband and I love coffee and the art of doing things ourselves, so we were very excited for this class. We thought: 5 hours for a coffee roasting class?! This must be intense and in-depth. The description of the class literally said, allow 5 hours for this class. We were ready to roll our sleeves up and learn! We arrived at the class, and found ourselves clustered in the back of a cluttered shop, with a teacher that clearly didn't have a set agenda, and was just rambling. We learned about roasting coffee, which was interesting, but it was really just a tutorial on using the coffee roasting machines that the instructor sells in his store. Speaking of selling, a customer came in to the store because, despite the fact that we paid $30 each to be in his class, the teacher did not care enough to close his store during the class. There was an awkward interaction between them then, and the teacher got very distracted by it. Then, we had to wait to, one at a time, use his ONE coffee roasting machine that was set up to roast coffee. This took the most time of anything, yet the class was still done an hour and a half after it started (not 5 hours, as we were previously told).

Very enjoyable class. Learned a huge amount about coffee roasting and got to roast my own coffee.

I would definitely recommend it to others.
