This Pursuit Supply Company workshop is taught by Gerri Fernandez who’s been photographing professionally for over 10 years and has a B.A. in Photography. She loves all things film and camera related, making her a true die-hard analog fan. Not one to use elaborate setups or post-production techniques, Gerri will teach you how to create engaging street portraits.
Get ready for a fun-filled day roaming the streets of Chicago. Gerri will give loving attention while teaching you how to make striking images in the moment. She will review how to adjust your camera settings and position to get the most out of each situation. She will also talk about taking into account the correct film choice for this analog focused class. Lastly, you will cover how to approach strangers for street portraits. She will go through the basics of lighting and how to interact with your subjects while making them comfortable. This class is for beginners and those who want to grow in confidence while photographing in the streets. The class will be tailored to each individual student's skill level.

The instructor was very knowledgeable about film and elements that make up street photography. We had a small class and after a short session discussing the elements of a shot, walked around Old Irving Park putting the theory into practice. She had a very interesting eye and taught us what she looks for in her pictures, how different colors and contrasting textures appear in black and white and color, and how to frame a shot to achieve what you want to see in your picture.
