Event Overview
Mosaics are an ancient artform that use pieces of pottery, tile and glass to create images. It continues to be a popular technique in vessels, furniture and murals. In this mosaic workshop, ArtReach will help you bring some artistic flair to your garden or outdoor walkway!
With the guidance of an experienced and talented mosaic artist, students will use templates or create their own design for a one-foot, square stepping stone foundation piece. Once a design is generated, students will cut tesserae (pieces of glass and tile) in colors of their choice and adhere the tesserae on the foundation stone with a mortar. Grout and instructions for application will be provided for students to complete the project at home.
All materials and safety equipment will be provided. Students will make one stepping stone each. Due to the nature of the tools and materials used, this class is appropriate for students ages 10 and older. The first floor, on which ArtReach’s classes take place, and restrooms are wheelchair accessible.
