Event Overview

These classes are designed as a space for people to take time to turn inward. The purpose is to examine ourselves in a variety of ways, and to enjoy the humor as well as the heartache that inevitably ensues as we share and explore our inner workings in good company.

Each, biweekly session focuses on a different theme related to self-exploration. During the sessions, you can expect to engage in a variety of writing exercises and group discussions in a supportive, laid-back environment.

Processing Old Wounds: Writing for Healing is meant for anyone feeling like old demons are haunting them, or feeling like they need the time and space to address pain that has been pushed down, or feeling like they need to move on, but are unable to. Together, we will use writing exercises to give a voice to the painful experiences and to free the mental, emotional, and spiritual space for healing to begin.

What To Expect:

• reading, writing and discussion
• some soul searching
• a sense of relief and gratitude for the power we have to heal ourselves
• tools and techniques for continuing to explore

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Marta is a former high school English teacher turned entrepreneur who has always drawn strength, guidance, and hope from other people’s stories. While attempting to heal from the sudden death of her boyfriend, she devoured books written by women who were reinventing themselves, and she began crafting her own story.

Marta credits these stories and the act of writing– as well as long runs along the lakefront and the frequent cuddling of perfectly, plump babies – with saving her sanity. In the words of Dani Shapiro, “Writing has allowed me not only to withstand the losses in my life, but to alter those losses – to chip away at my own bewilderment until I find a pattern in it.”

Marta feels blessed by the opportunity to bring together other people who are soul-searching and to facilitate the writing process for them as well.
