Event Overview

This class is designed as a space to explore the story women tell. The purpose is to examine how we think about ourselves (our narrative), and to enjoy the humor as well as the heartache that ensues as we share and explore our experiences in good company. This is not meant to be a writing course, but rather a course in self-exploration through reading and writing.

Before each session, we will read a short (3-5 page) essay or article related to the theme. During the sessions, you can expect to engage in a variety of partner and group discussions, writing exercises. Upon completion of the course, you can expect to have a better sense of where you are in your life, what has lead you there, where you hope to go, and most importantly, how to get there while maintaining your sanity.

Session 1: Building our Community – Thursday, May 22nd 6:30-9 pm
Session 2: Examining our Narrative – Thursday, May 29th 6:30-9 pm

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Marta is a former high school English teacher turned entrepreneur who has always drawn strength, guidance, and hope from the women in her life. While attempting to heal from the sudden death of her boyfriend, she devoured stories of women reinventing themselves and surrounded herself with an arsenal of exquisitely humored women. She credits these women and their stories – as well as long runs along the lakefront and the frequent cuddling of perfectly, plump babies – for saving her sanity. Marta feels blessed by the opportunity to bring together other women who are soul-searching and is relieved to now know why she has been hoarding so many articles and essays for the past few years.
