Event Overview
Minimize your ecological footprint and reduce household waste by letting worms eat your garbage! Red wigglers consume their weight in fruit and veggie scraps every day and can double their population in as little as three months.
In this class, Dabblers will construct their own urban worm bins specifically geared for apartment and condo dwellers. Students will leave with a basic understanding of vermi-composting, why worms are "vegetarian," and how to implement a household composting system without leaving the city.

Kelli has been creating since she was four years old, sewing quilts at her grandmother's side. An avid crafter, she is involved in and deeply committed to the Chicago handmade community, serving as the Director of the Urban Folk Circuit, Chicago's only year-round, traveling craft market series.
Kelli lives in Portage Park, in a thoughtful community, where they work to cultivate their big, red urban farmhouse into an inspiring homestead through canning organic vegetables from their raised bed gardens, composting, and raising a small flock of chickens.

Such a great class, I had been nervous about composting before, but all my questions and concerns were answered and since we made the composting box in the class, I had no excuse not to start composting that very day!! I would definitely take some of her other classes

Kelli was very well informed and did a thorough job of explaining the rationale behind composting as well as the "how-to" and trouble-shooting of composting. I'm really excited to watch my little tub of compost evolve!

This was a great class -- Kelli was incredibly informative and patient. I especially loved that we got to go home with our own compost bins (worms included) and get started right away!

The instructor was great. Kelli does this at home, so she was able to answer all of our questions with first-hand experience. Also, it's great that we were able to leave the class with everything we needed to get started.

Kelli's very knowledgeable, and she had a very good teaching plan down. She effectively communicated everything we needed to get started, with pre-printed notes to refer back to, and provided all materials for our first bin with clear instructions on where to get more in the future. I'd read about composting before but was intimidated by having to run around town looking for all the materials needed, but this made it easy.

She effectively communicated everything we needed to get started, with pre-printed notes to refer back to, and provided all materials for our first bin with clear instructions on where to get more in the future.
