Chicken Keeping for Urban Dwellers
TOP RATED
Education
A most wild and free morning begins with a quiet stroll to the backyard for breakfast, returning with a soft array of freshly laid eggs. Learn how to transform your urban oasis into a mini-farm by adding a small flock of chickens.
In this class, Dabblers will learn more than you ever wanted to know about chickens: breeds, temperaments, suggestions for cold-hardy Chicago fowl, where to find 'em, how to feed 'em, and best practices for keeping your neighbors happy. Students will also discuss creating an end of life plan for your birds whether they go to a literal farm or the proverbial farm. We'll address all your questions from pest-control, to organics, to continued care.
No roosters required. You will leave with all the information you need to go straight home and build a coop!

Once upon a time, Kelli raised a small flock of chickens named after Nirvana songs: Frances Farmer, Mrs. Butterworth, Marigold, and Polly. Then she threw them a birthday party and all the neighbors and nearby preschoolers knew their names and loved telling their friends about "our girls." She's spent nearly 10 years merging her rural roots with her urban existence and believes urban agriculture to be a powerful tool for community development.
