Event Overview

In this workshop you will explore making a felted silk scarf with natural fibers including merino wool and silk. You will learn how to fuse the wool with the silk. In addition you will use yarn, threads, beads and other things to add texture and color. It is an absolutely amazing process as your design develops right in front of you while getting a fantastic upper body workout. Your end product will be a one of a kind masterpiece.

No prior felting experience necessary and all of our classes are BYOB. Glasses are provided by the studio.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

We are a Not For Profit organization whose mission is "Textile Art for All". If it is textile based and you can make it by hand, we want to teach it in our studios at the beautiful Bridgeport Art Center! Our philosophy is to run contemporary, hands-on, project-based workshops, so that you can come along, learn something new and go home with a finished product or a new skill. Why? Because there is tremendous power in making something yourself. You will learn new skills or revisit old ones; you will discover the joy of working with your hands and you will find an outlet for your creativity. Along the way you will review your spirit and perhaps make a few new friends. All of our classes are taught by visiting artists and/or experts in the field. We offer adult workshops in beginning sewing, intermediate sewing, couture sewing and 45 different surface design techniques. For kids we offer Saturday programs and summer camps. We also offer textile art events for birthdays, bridal showers, girls night out etc. so ask Dabble about group pricing.

All of our classes are offered at a nominal fee and all proceeds are used to bring textile arts to urban youth in Chicago in form of after school programs, summer programs, apprenticeships and internships.

We look forward to welcoming you in our studios.

This class was a lot of fun and the instructor was very helpful. I am not the most artistic person and still left with a decent looking scarf! Definitely a fun class!

Ilona was kind, patient, and helpful during the class. Now I understand how the nuno felting process works firsthand.

Ilona is a gem. And whenever I take a class with her, I always leave with some amazing thing I just made and a big smile of accomplishment. She is a first rate teacher and a lot of fun !!

This was a very informative class. Elona was very patient with the class and gave everyone plenty of individual attention. I learned a technique that was completely new to me, having not had much experience in textiles at all. I left with a beautiful, finished scarf and the feeling I could continue to make nuno felted scarves at home with readily available materials. My class mates were all wonderful.
