Finish printing and sign edition - class wrap up
Woodcut or woodblock printmaking has rich history spanning many cultures and the fields of publishing, design, and art. Originating in China as early as the 3rd century AD, woodcut techniques spread to Europe in the 13th century. Many iconic artists used this medium including Hiroshige, Albrecht Dürer, and Käthe Kollowitz to name a few.
This introductory 5-week course taught by printmaking artist Kim Morski, will cover a brief history of the woodcut, contemporary examples, and techniques for designing, carving, and printing woodblocks. The course is spread out over five weeks, so students have time to refine their design, experiment with carving a woodblock, and learn the printing process. Each student will complete an edition of prints from their woodblock by the end of the course.
Each student will have one print included in an exhibition of student work at Red Delicious Press in the fall of 2016.
Students will be given instructions on paper to bring for the third, fourth, and fifth classes.
All ages welcome
Each student will receive their own Power Grip 5-piece carving tool set to take home after the class. The workshop will also provide wood and printing materials.
