EDIT: THIS CLASS IS NOT CANCELLED. Please disregard any email saying that it is.

In this class, join oolong tea specialist Shiuwen while we sample and enjoy Taiwan's five famous oolong teas together, and experience what each tea has to offer us as tea drinkers. We will guide participants to discover for themselves what characteristics make up an exceptional oolong in each category, and what to look for so you can delve into the search for the best cup of tea.

Each farmer grows tea differently, each season is different as is the land, and each step in the processing of oolong impacts the final product. This class will explore all these aspects. You will not only end up with an excellent cup of tea, but you will know what made it excellent.

Seattle's self-proclaimed Queen of Oolong owns Floating Leaves Tea. Her penchant for travel brought her to Seattle in the early 2000s, and it was here that she discovered her passion for Taiwan's great treasure, oolong tea.

In Taiwan, tea was just a part of daily life. In her mind it simply brought friends together. After finding a home in Seattle, soon she was sharing tea at local farmer's markets. Then she opened a tea house. Her passion for tea still drives her to seek out higher quality teas every time she returns to Taiwan. Floating Leaves is her outlet to share what she has collected on her tea journey.

Wow! What a great experience! Shiuwen's presentation was as informative as it was entertaining. I enjoyed learning about the different tea-growing regions of Taiwan as well as sampling their products. Who knew there were so many oolongs?! The best part was when she described the individual farmers who cultivated each tea as well as their farms. Her talk was very inspiring and made me want to travel.

The taiwanese Oolong was the best experience. Shiuwren is an expert at what she does and her stories make one love the teas even more. This class was well organized and of course where better to taste tea than at The London Tea Room. Huge thanks to Mindy James for bringing this class to us.
