Event Overview

"Haiku Vessels" a vase with their own haiku poem on it. Bring things to make textures or personal items to press into the clay slabs. We will make a haiku vessel based on a favorite memory or dream. You will paint with slips during the workshop and your poem will be fired on as a decal either by you or SBAP staff at a later time. This class will be co-taught by visiting Artist Ruth Reece with Reece Gallery and SBAP Resident Artist Eyan Mullet.

South Broadway Art Project Clay Date Night is for wannabe potters, beginners, and the artistically inclined! There is an instructor working with students the whole time, and we accept new
students on a weekly basis. ​​​BYOB is Thursday & Friday nights 7:30-10 pm. "Bring your own drinks and snacks!" SBAP has plates, cups, silverware, wine openers etc.....
Our studio themes change weekly or monthly and demonstrations take place nightly at 8 pm.
Beginner students will follow guidance of the instructors monthly studio theme, while experienced students have the choice to work independently or in-line with the studio theme.

Bring things to make textures or personal items to press into the clay slabs. We will make a haiku vessel based on a favorite memory or dream or don't bring anything at all as well also have plenty of inspiration!

What's Provided

Yes we provide all of the materials. Once students are finished with their clay piece there is a $3-$9 glaze and firing fee

Ruth Ann Reese explores the richness of porcelain and red earthenware in her sculptural work. Reese has been published in "500 Plates", "500 Raku" and "Mourning: A Buddhist Ritual Comes to America." Exhibiting nationally, her work has been a part of Visions in Clay, Red Heat and NCECA. Her work has also been shown at the Evansville Museum in IN, the Racine Art Museum in WI and the San Angelo Museum of Fine Art in TX. Reese holds an MFA from Washington University and BA in English from Loyola University. Most recently, Reese has completed an Artist in Residence at Craft Alliance St. Louis, and can be found directing the REESE Gallery in St. Louis, MO.

Eyan Mullet has been working as an SBAP Resident Teaching Artist for three years.
Eyan produces functional and sculptural pottery and has an extensive background in Ceramics and Sculpture with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Sculpture from Southeast Missouri. Eyan has showed his work at many galleries throughout rural and urban Missouri. Eyan has worked for Southeast Missouri State University as a Sculpture Studio Teaching Assistant, and Gallery Assistant. Eyan began his life long artistic journey in childhood learing all about the art and craft of ceramics from his mother who is a Potter.
