Event Overview

This is the perfect calligraphy class for Wizards, Witches, and Muggles alike. Instead of using a boring old calligraphy pen, we’ll learn the basics of calligraphy with quill feather pens, perfect for both modern and magical lettering. We’ll start by learning how to prepare the metal nib and then we’ll master the basic strokes, which we will quickly turn into beautiful letters. Before you know it you’ll be taking notes in your spell book and scribbling “Mrs. Ginny Potter” in the margins!

After we’ve mastered the basics, you’ll be able to create your own Hogwarts letter – you know, the one you’ve been waiting for since you were eleven. You’ll even learn how to finish it off with the official Hogwarts wax seal. All the supplies you need will be provided, including practice worksheets.

As we learn and practice, we'll sip on potions from The Red Lion Pub, a charming English pub that practically belongs in Hogsmeade.

A school teacher by day, Sam is also a self-taught calligrapher who enjoys creating paper goods and signage for weddings and events, decorating gifts and envelopes, and making the world a more beautiful place. I've always been mildly interested in learning the basics of calligraphy, and when I saw that this class was Harry Potter themed I was IN! I love that there was a specific theme/purpose to this class. Samantha was a great teacher, both in helping us learn the basics and also in being very committed to the Harry Potter theme, which I super appreciate. We met at a bar that had a very British/Hogwarts vibe, she provided quills that we could write with, and we got to write our own Hogwarts letter towards the end!

This was a great class. It was great to geek out for a couple of hours with Sam and the other women in the class. It was a small class and the atmosphere was very friendly. Sam brought along feather quills and gave us time to make our own Hogwarts letters. It was a nice souvenir to be able to take home.

Sam's class was an absolute blast! She had a ton of cute Potter-Props & the venue just really made the whole thing come together. She's also an incredible teacher. I was super wary about trying calligraphy as a lefty based off a few google blogs but she had a quick hand-position change which made it a lot easier! I'm hoping to take another one of her classes because she's super down-to-earth and you learn a ton from her in such a short class. Can't wait for my next one :)

My friends and I had a fantastic time in this class! We were all surprised at how much we learned in the two hours with Sam.
She is an approachable, fun teacher who I am already planning to take more classes from.
