Watercolor Brush Calligraphy for Beginners
Join me at a cute private room in the beautiful Hotel Lincoln for a watercolor calligraphy workshop! Watercolor calligraphy uses the basic principles of modern script calligraphy using a paintbrush and watercolor paints. This creates a casual, whimsical, romantic style, perfect for weddings or everyday. This workshop is designed for brand-new calligraphers, but it is also a great follow-up to my pointed pen class Calligraphy and a Cold One if you’ve already taken that one.
We will start by choosing colors and getting our supplies ready, and then we will learn some basic strokes with our paintbrushes. Next, we'll combine these strokes to create letters, and then words. I’ll also teach you a few watercolor design elements that are helpful for stationary, like greenery, florals, and color washes. Once you’re feeling confident, we’ll start designing a postcard that you can take home and frame or send to a loved one! As we learn and practice, we’ll sip on my favorite refreshing wine cocktails!

Sam's passion is pretty words, and she has been filling notebooks with them since she learned cursive in second grade. A school teacher by day, Sam is also a self-taught calligrapher who enjoys creating paper goods and signage for weddings and events, decorating gifts and envelopes, and making the world a more beautiful place. She loves teaching adults and children alike all about the art of calligraphy!

Sam's class was great! I was looking to learning the basics of calligraphy and wanted to be a little more creative which was why I selected this class - which was perfect for me. If you are looking to really learn, have fun, and take home a new skill, than this is the class for you!

The class took place at a great location. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the class. There were only 7 of us in the class which made it very personal. I would highly recommend a class with Sam. She was fun and energetic!

Two hours went by fast! Hotel Lincoln provided a great space for this class and Sam was a patient instructor who introduced us to Cabernet and Fresca (think sangria) and of course the art of modern calligraphy. Low stress, no pressure kind of class. I would absolutely do it again.

I learned about Sam's class through Instagram. Really loved our small group and Sam really went around and provided constructive criticism and praise. She guided the class at a good, natural pace. We had snacks, drinks, and a fun playlist. It was a warm and inviting environment. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. I would highly consider signing up for another class with Sam. Bonus: Hotel Lincoln has a great rooftop bar called The J Parker for post-class drinks!

Sam is an excellent teacher! The class had a great vibe with just the right amount of guidance while you worked at your own pace from there. I feel much more confident using these tools and doing watercolor calligraphy on my own. I would recommend this class to anyone interested in lettering and even just for a fun outing with your friends!
