Event Overview
This fun, friendly workshop is aimed at men and women whose dance-floor fears keep them from joining the fun at weddings, holiday parties, reunions, and other social events.
The class will focus on listening and moving to rhythm, gaining body awareness, and putting the music and the body together, all in a comfortable environment and at a pace set for folks who feel they've got two left feet. You will be learning to songs you're likely to hear at upcoming celebrations --the classics and the latest hits.
If you wish, reinforce what you've learned with a companion class, Wallflower Power: Now Get on the Dance Floor--taking place the following week, and also offered on Dabble! In that class we will practice putting music and movement together, changing our movement to changes in the music, and tapping into a personal style on the dance floor!
This workshop does not focus on partner dancing, but rather on feeling comfortable dancing "freestyle," individually or in a group with friends.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST
Kaara Kallen is living proof that dancing feet are made, not born. After a youth spent cowering from dance floors of all kinds, Kaara learned as an adult to connect movement to rhythm in the humble confines of a YMCA step-aerobics class. She went on to discover a world of moving pursuits, including capoeira, go-go, salsa, swing, and yoga. Kaara is now an avid social dancer, a dance and dance-fitness instructor, and a choreographer, and a co-director of the '60s-style go-go troupe the Revelettes. Kaara believes that dancing is just about the best thing you can do for your body, heart, and soul, and is excited to share the magic with others.
Pamela Paul has fifteen years experience as a student, instructor, and performer of a variety of dance and movement forms. She spent ten years studying at The New York Theatre Ballet's training school and is certified in pilates, neonatal pilates, and a variety of group exercise formats; you can learn about her pilates and fitness classes at pepmodmovement.com. Pamela is a member Chicago dance troupe the Revelettes and performs in a variety of other period and contemporary dance projects, but some of her most rewarding and memorable dance experiences have been spontaneous freestyling at bar mitzvahs, parades, parties, weddings, and flash mobs.
