I was nervous to try climbing but the teacher was encouraging and helpful. She helped me get to the top of the wall when I didn't think I could. I had a good time and the gym is awesome!

Intro to Climbing class was awesome! Everything was explained very well and at a pace that could be easily understood. Would highly recommend BKB to others interested in climbing, or just trying something new!

The Brooklyn Boulders facility is very cool, and everyone working there was super nice. It was very crowded, which was a little tough when having a class, because we kept having to wait for others to use the wall before us. We definitely learned a lot from our instructor on climbing technique, and went on many different types of bouldering walls. I wish we had had a little more help when heading towards the big wall, though. They ended the class after just the bouldering walls and then handed us a harness and told us to go do the auto-belay basically on our own. Learned a lot, but wish it was a little more organized!

This was a great start to climbing. This class gave me a lot to think about and work on, with both hands-on practice and easy-to-remember pieces of advice.

It was actually a blind date. It turns out only the two of us had signed up for the class and for both of us it was our first time. We're both in good shape and fairly athletic but had never climbed before. It was all right but personally I would have liked a bit more instruction from our teacher.
I wouldn't recommend this activity if you're not in good to great physical condition already. Core body and leg strength is more important that arm strength, believe it or not, but shoulder strength is also key. You get more winded than you expect. Forty-five minutes is enough for a first time.
Also, not a bad activity for a first date.

This facility was impressive and the staff was super nice and very encouraging. I took the intro to climbing class, which lasted about 45 minutes. Things to know if you take this class: 1) You have to create a customer account with the venue in order to complete the waiver*, which you don’t find out until after you pay Dabble for the class. 2) Bring a lock for the lockers or else you’ll have to carry around your stuff or stash it somewhere and hope it doesn’t get moved. 3) You’ll be given climbing shoes so feet-juice-phobes, you’ve been warned. 4) The instructor gives a few basic pointers and soon you’re climbing. However, you have to go one at a time and everyone is watching when it’s your turn. It’s a bit nerve wracking, and it also means a majority of the time you’re standing around. Towards the end, you get a pitch about signing up for more classes/membership and blah blah. :) Overall, the class wasn’t negative but it wasn’t worth the money IMO. On the other hand, if you just want to try climbing a short wall once or twice, then it might be perfect.

    * After posting the above review, I received a message from "Hannah" with Dabble saying that this rock climbing venue is one of their "partners" and asked me to "consider revising" my review. So allow me to clarify: If you wait until AFTER you purchase the class through Dabble to complete the waiver via the rock climbing venue website, you have to create a customer account with email, password, etc. I guess Hannah missed the point that it isn't the waiver, it's the account creation that is annoying. Hannah offered lots of helpful reasons that I should revise my other comments, but I think instead I will advise Hannah that Dabble shouldn't ask for feedback if they can't accept it graciously or understand that reviews are to help other potential students know what to expect. :/

I think this was a lot of fun! They teach you the basics of bouldering and climbing. What they do not really make clear on this description is that after the class is over, you have a day pass to do as you please around the facility. That was a pleasant surprise! Ignore one of the earlier comments that said it was a lot of standing around. You do take turns, but you have lots of time after to do what you want. I'd totally recommend this to someone who wants to try out bouldering.

I had a great time at Brooklyn Boulders. This is an excellent deal - the price includes rental of climbing gear plus opportunity to spend the rest of the day practicing bouldering/climbing. The teacher explained bouldering really well. Overall, excellent experience and planning to come back to the gym to practice bouldering even more.
