This introduction to Gongfu tea 功夫茶 is a hands-on experience for beginners to learn more about a prominent Chinese method of tea brewing. You'll use a chawan (lidded tea cup) and other tea accessories to create beautiful cups of tea for yourself and others. North Branch will provide all the essentials to learn how to create Gongfu tea. Tea is provided by Spirit Tea.
During this class we will be talking about the essential steps to brew Gongfu tea, talk a little bit about the history of tea, and most importantly we will brew Gongfu tea. The time is as much about learning as it is about enjoying one another's company with a delicious cup of tea. After the class, you will get the chance to learn about bookbinding and other North Branch projects.
What's Provided
All supplies for you to make Gongfu tea will be provided in the workshop. You'll have the opportunity to purchase sets of ceramic teaware after the workshop.

Ariel's background in tea is appropriately circular. She got into ceramics due to drinking tea growing up, got into Chinese art because of ceramics, went to work at a Chinese antique furniture gallery because of Chinese art, went back to Taiwan because of work, and fell in love with tea and tea culture because of Taiwan. Since then she has travelled the world looking for notable tea shops, worked as a tea consultant for both privately and for corporate engagements, continued developing her pottery practice and tasting palate, and is in pursuit of her own tea venture.
