Event Overview
In this live, 3 to 4 Hour instructional presentation we go through everything needed to learn about WordPress, the world's most popular website design and development Content Management System.
What is WordPress? It is the Content Management System (basically the engine that powers a website) used by SONY Music, BBC America, LinkedIn, MSNBC, Google Ventures, the Government of Sweden's website, the Rolling Stones, and millions of others around the globe.
We'll talk about what it is and is not, all about hosting, domain names, free sites vs. paid or self-hosting and the pros and cons, how to pick a domain name that works, how to set up a WordPress site once it's installed, how to prevent hacking and spamming, how to set up your pages and posts and blog, how to set up SEO, and much, much more!
This is a very fast-moving, intensive three-hour lecture / presentation where we cover all aspects of getting a new WordPress website up and running and cover plugins as well and make the presentation available for download afterward for study. We will also be offering a complimentary discussion group follow-up for attendees to review questions.
Depending on time and wifi, we may have access to a live, demo or test site to use if we have enough time to do so. I will also be available afterward for any class-related questions. I will also provide the lecture as a download afterward, along with one or two surprises.
What to Bring
Notebook, notepad, notepaper, willingness to learn and interest in WordPress and web design.
Minimum age
All ages welcome
Prerequisites
You should be familiar with Word, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft programs, know how to check e-mail, and know what websites are and be familiar with using common website navigation.
Should you bring your laptop? You can if you want to, but it's not necessary. In this class, we're not fixing broken sites or creating websites, but rather learning how to use WordPress inside and out - so accessing a website that you (or someone else) may have created will be a different experience for everyone, since everyone's website is unique. Therefore we feel it's best to observe, take notes, pay attention, ask questions, and get involved in learning about WordPress as the world's leading Content Management System then trying to jump into it right away.
What's Provided
I'll provide a free download of the presentation for studying after the presentation so note taking won't be necessary.
