Event Overview
Once your okra's beautiful flowers have turned to fruit, what do you do with all those pods? They can be a little scary, what with their reputation for slime. This class is a slime-free zone where we'll discuss how to make okra its most delicious and preserve it until the next harvest. We'll make:
Pickled okra
Frozen okra
Okra corn fritters (fresh and frozen)
Freezer gumbo mix
We'll snack on okra goodies during class. All you need are basic cooking skills and an appetite for okra that's bigger than the growing season.
What to Bring
Bring a pint jar and take home a jar of pickles.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST
I've been teaching people to preserve foods for years. Food waste makes me almost as cranky as eating the same boring things over and over. I'm always looking for new ways to expand the bounty for my farming and gardening friends. Grow it, preserve it, and eat locally year-round!
