Chef Rick Bayless - "Lucila's alfajores are the best I've ever had. Stunningly well-crafted. Pure joy."
Join Lucila in her bakery as you experience her spin on the authentic and time-honored recipe for melt-in-your-mouth alfajores. Using the finest ingredients, Lucila will walk you through the steps as you individually handcraft the cookies and expertly add the perfect dulce de leche filling. You’ll leave with the batch of the freshly baked alfajores that you personally created and the know-how to assemble some in your own kitchen.
Lucila Giagrande grew up in a small town in Argentina with the constant aroma of alfajores baking in her house. The "Alfajor" pastry came to South America by way of Spain in the 19th century and it stuck around. Made of two soft, buttery cookies sandwiched around a luscious dollop of dulce de leche (creamy caramel), this unique and authentic confectionery pastry has become somewhat of a national cookie in Argentina...eaten for breakfast, dessert and anytime the mood strikes.
After moving to the US, Lucila founded Lucila’s Alfajores™ to bring the intoxicating treat to the states, selling them at cafes and specialty markets throughout the Chicago-land area. Her recipe must be right-on because Time Out Chicago also gushed “when it comes to alfajores, no one makes them better than Lucila Giagrande".
Bring an open mind ready to experience Argentina with Lucila!

Lucila Giagrande comes from a small town in Argentina, where she grew up devouring pastries made with love and lots of dulce de leche by her mom and abuela. After moving to the US and having children, she realized that she wanted her kids to grow up with the same wonderful memories, tastes and aromas swirling through the house.
Already a caterer by trade, she started baking the alfajores at home and sharing them with friends. At their urging, she founded Lucila’s Homemade and the rest is sweet history. Rick Bayless tweeted "Lucila's alfajores are the best I've ever had. Stunningly well crafted. Pure joy." Her alfajores have been featured on ABC News, Fox News, Daily Candy, Chicago Magazine and Time Out Chicago, making their Best Things We Ate of 2011. Today, her treats can be found at Whole Foods, Plum Market, Rick Bayless' Frontera outlets, local cafes, farmers markets and specialty grocers around town.
Great class with an amazing and fun teacher. These Alfajores are the the best and making them with Lucila was a lot of fun. My friend and I enjoyed our evening and will come back for more if other classes are offered.

Lucilla was great! She is friendly and knowledgeable. I give her a lot of credit for starting her own business. Her space is immaculate.
The Alfajora's were so yummy. I purchased a gift pack and gave it to my son. They are all gone!!

We had a wonderful time learning how to make alfajores with Lucila. The workshop is edifying, interactive, and fun! I would highly recommend it for a date night or a girl's night out.

The class was amazing! The instructor answered every question we had. The environment was really relaxed, that students and instructor were comfortable enough to joke around making this experience even more memorable. If class is offered again, I highly recommend anyone who likes alfajores to learn from the best in Chicago!!!

This class was so much fun! We were able to learn the process of making the cookie dough and then were able to each roll out and cut our own dough ball. While those cookies were in the oven, we were able to make four alfajores to take home (along with the cookies we cut out. Would highly recommend this class. It was fun, informative and the alfies are delicious!

Lucila is so amazingly nice and generous, I had a great time learning from her! It was fun to be able to make our own cookies and meet new people. I was disappointed that we didn't learn how to make dulce de leche, but I understand that it is not a simple task.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give this class a 15! I had so much fun, met some wonderful people. and came home with delicious treats that reminded me of my time in Argentina earlier this year. The only hard part is saving two alfajores to give to my sister at Thanksgiving.

I tried one of Lucila's alfajores the week that I moved to Chicago. I was blown away by this delicious, little cookie and have been a fan ever since. When I learned that she was offering a hands-on cooking class, I knew had to sign up. Lucila was welcoming from beginning to end and the class had a blast making these cookies! We were able to take quite a few home and my family is still raving over these treats.

Loved this class! Lucila is fun and adorable and relaxed, her kitchen is a great for a class like this, and her alfajores are fabulous. Her stories about growing up in Argentina and chowing down on alfajores give great color to the whole baking experience.
You make and go home with 4 fully-assembled cookies, and you also roll out, bake, and take home a batch of the sandwich cookies unassembled, so I'm definitely going to make some dulce de leche of my own and assemble them at home ASAP. Great fun!

This class was fantastic. Lucila is friendly and does a great job at explaining the culture of alfajores in Argentina and how to make them at home. Her kitchen is a great setting for a class, and the evening was a perfect mix of instruction and hands-on activity. I was impressed with the amount of cookies I got to take home with me so the cost of the class is definitely worth price. I had an amazing time and would recommend this class to anyone who has been to Argentina, has tried alfajores or just has a sweet tooth!

I didn't really learn much because it was just a basic cookie recipe and purchased Carmel. Not worth $50. Way overpriced.
