This is an introductory course covering copyright and trademark issues frequently encountered in cyber space. The course focuses on issues faced by web developers, bloggers, Tweeters, and App. Developers.
During this class, we will lay groundwork for understanding copyrights and trademarks, learn how to leverage IP to protect your work, and how to identify and avoid infringing the rights of others. This course will also clears up popular misconceptions about work for hire, fair use and the “public domain."

Heather N. Schafer & Nicholas P. Smith are intellectual property attorneys with over eight years experience representing start-ups, university spin-outs, and entrepreneurs. Heather serves as an adjunct professor of Intellectual Property law at Chicago Kent College of Law, a position she has held for 5 years. Nick has taught numerous copyright basics courses for entrepreneurship incubators in Atlanta, Georgia, he is also active with Georgia State University College of Law's Moot Court program. Both Nick and Heather publish in Intellectual Property journals and blogs. Heather has been named an “Illinois Rising Star” by SuperLawyers Magazine for 4 years
