Event Overview

Hot Hot Hot. Come join us for an evening of glass blowing.
We will walk you through what we do to make our products and then teach you a few things.

During the event you will be able to participate in blowing glass to make a product you will love to talk about.

Our team will instruct you on how to create a cool double walled bowl from molten 2000 degree glass.

Initially a short explanation of the glass blowing studio do's and do not's with an overview of how glass works and is formed. This will be followed up by how we produce our lovely products and then we will take you by the hand and lead you down a path you will be sure to remember. You may even want to sign up for more classes and become a professional glass blower. You never know.

Following this exciting excursion your product will be available to be picked up at our other studio where you may want to actually take another class. Maybe you want to use your really cool new hand blown vessel as a terrarium bowl. Hey why not take that course too? Check out our other offerings. Or just come pick up your bowl and put your nick-nacks in it or use it for cereal, or maybe you have a better idea.

This class will be taught by members of the 3-Switch team. Tom Michalski will be on the pipe helping you learn the real tricks of the trade while Patrick or Nicole will be instructing and explaining the process. When glassblowing, it is best to work in teams so that is what we do and you will see that it takes some effort and coordination to get every part correct-- but we got this!

As someone who had never tried glass-blowing before, this was a very non-intimidating way to be introduced to the art and create really cool take-home piece! The instructors were great and the bowls that we made look so cool. I still get so many compliments on them :).

Glass blowing in Chicago! Who knew? The art of glass blowing is really fascinating, seeing it in person doesn't make it any less magical. Tom and Patrick were both super nice, super professional, super patient guys. They put up with a really chatty class (myself included) that wanted a lot of special treatment ("I want stripes!" "You can't have stripes, that's not possible without a mold" "I want dots!" "Okay, but your bowl might not be symmetrical!" "DOTS!" "Okay, dots."). It's almost worth going just to watch them twirl around scalding batons without injuring themselves. Definitely recommend!

I've done glass blowing before, actually, and I go back because of instructors like these. Patient, clear instructions with always an eye to safety, combined with humor and great knowledge about their art and you always come away having learned something as you make something very unique. You are involved in the process from start to finish and you can honestly say that you have created something pretty wonderful. But more than creating a bowl or an ornament, the experience stays with you. Glass can be fascinating and this was a fabulous experience with a great instructor.
