Event Overview

This fun and Swoon-worthy wood shop class will make useable and unique handcrafted pieces for your kitchen or living space. In this experience, students will be creating their very own wall-mounted bottle opener from reclaimed local barn wood. Students will be able to choose their own piece of reclaimed wood from our inventory and use our orbital sander to refine their board.

Using the drill press, students will drill the spot for the magnet that will catch the bottle tops. Using our software, students will be able to choose and laser etch their own design from a long list of options.

Design choices include the Chicago skyline, "Chicago" with flag stars, Chicago neighborhoods, zip codes, state boards, state outline with a starred location or their own name or phrase. Finally, students will drill and attach hardware.

Length on class varying on the number of students (45 min to 90 min approximately)

With the power of the plastic cards many cool and unique pieces of equipment have been purchased and now all we need is an audience to teach. So leave the kids at home, put on your safety goggles and let's get messy. If you don't get any on you then you're just not having any fun.
(Always keep hair tied back and no loose fitting clothes or open toed shoes.)

Fun experience, and fantastic end result. Can customize however you want. You can be as hands on as you'd like, or have instructor take care of some steps if you don't feel comfortable (e.g. using the table saw). Totally up to you.

Very fun class, hands-on, and Patrick is a great host. The bottle openers are very rustic looking and make for great functional decorations.

Patrick was a wonderful teacher. He was good-humored and patient, and all of our projects turned out fantastic. The studio is also pretty cool and its fun to see what other projects they are working on. The bottle opener was easy to make and you could customize the laser etching so that your piece is unique.
