Event Overview

The Plant-Powered Cinco de Mayo cooking class is a cooking playshop for those Mexican food lovers who don’t love all the added fats or hours of slow cooking.

On the surface? It’s about pigging out on chips and salsa + ruining your dinner.

But really? It’s about learning how to turn whole foods into fun + festive dishes with speed + simplicity. We’ll craft six super easy dishes you can quickly + easily prep for your own Cinco de Mayo party and knock the sombreros off your friends.

This can be a hands-on class, or you can relax and sip a corona and watch – it’s totally up to you.

By the end of the class, you'll learn to make:
- fresh garlicky salsa
- mockamole (aka “healthy guac”)
- easy spicy black bean dip
- 5 minute black bean soup
- raw sunflower seed tacos with creamy avocado dressing
- Mexican sushi

Class is free of:
- dairy, gluten, soy + oil (except for corn chips)
- weird ingredients or spices that you’ll never use

What to Bring

BYOB + a sombrero (ok, kidding, but really, you can BYOB) and a container to take home any leftovers (if there are any!)

Minimum age

All ages welcome

Prerequisites

This class is NOT for you if:
- you need to follow recipes to a 'T', we’re going to play + have fun

Jacq would love to live in a world where green juice flows from taps, going barefoot is totally cool, and homes downsize instead of up-size.

Plant-based cook + urban-minimalist, her un-fussy food and minimalist musings have been featured on Kris Carr, Happy Herbivore, Mint.com and The Local Beet Chicago, to name a few.

When she's not simplifying busy people’s plates + getting more fresh whole foods into folks, you can find her devouring books on food and culture, flipping tractor tires like a boss and indulging in red wine + dark chocolate.

She'll show you how to re-connect with food + un-fuss everything about your cooking + home, so you can have a more experience-rich life.
