Event Overview

This class is a perfect follow-up to my SLR 101 where we can put all of your new camera knowledge to work, or for anyone interested in learning how to apply photography techniques in the "real world." In this 2 hour class everyone will get personalized attention catered to their photographic interests. As we walk around we'll cover architectural photography, street photography and portraiture.

We'll begin in the South Garden of the Art Institute of Chicago, with some general instructions and goals for the afternoon. Then we'll set out on our photowalk, stopping by Crown Fountain, Cloudgate, the Chicago Cultural Center, Michigan Avenue Bridge, and the river walk.

Whether you are a beginner, or more advanced, I'll be there to help with questions about camera settings, working with ambient light, or anything else you want to improve on. The photowalk will be limited to a small group to ensure I have plenty of time to spend with everyone.

We'll also connect and share photos online after the walk in order to re-examine our images, give constructive criticism, and continue the conversation.

By the end of this photowalk you will:

1. Understand how to shoot in Aperture Priority (in other words, not in Auto!)
2. Know how to use exposure compensation to get the correct exposure
3. Increase your understanding of light and how to find good light for portraits
4. Understand focal length and how it effects your portraits
5. Add some new techniques to your photographic toolkit

What to Bring

SLR camera, fully charged battery, an empty memory card, and any lenses they care to use for the walk.
