Event Overview

Learn the mental skills and self-defense techniques that can be used before, during, and after sexual assaults. Research has shown repeatedly that the greatest deterrent to a sexual assault is self-defense training. This workshop will help you to understand your worth while giving you the tools to protect it. The physical skills will consist of strikes to cause pain or immobilize, grappling to escape holds or put an attacker down, and mental skills to spot boundary lowering tactics and advice on what to do following an assault. Learning these skills will help you to empower others through sharing the experience or the techniques and tactics taught.

Torriente Toliver has been involved in martial arts for over 20 years and has been teaching for 9 years. He has earned the black belt rank in Youn Wha Ryu Taekwondo, Pagoda Ryu Karate, Tsai Family Style Kung Fu, and C.U.M.A. (combined universal martial applications) Combatives. He fused the traditional martial arts into a style of kickboxing and self-defense which transcends the limitations of any one art. Even in group classes, each student develops as an individual. Torriente uses his background as a classroom teacher to develop physically rigorous, mentally demanding, and wildly exciting classes.
