There are many kinds of hunters in this world.
Head hunters.
Duck hunters.
But our favorite hunters scour alleyways, thrift stores, and abandoned lots for salvageable material that they nurse back to relevance with a little TLC and DIY panache.

This Dabble workshop is about being a hunter that advocates for the life of dead or dying things (hey, now there's a new stance) by saving wood from the depths of irrelevance and polishing it into a fancy new wooden bench. We'll begin class by laying out blueprints for our benches, selecting materials (from an already accumulated pile of reclaimed pine) and getting step-by-step instructions and safety guidelines for operating some of the workshop's handiest tools: the chop saw, the router and the drill.

Wax and wane your way into a new seating piece by measuring, cutting, assembling and adhering your wood into a fine homemade bench. We'll end class with a discussion on options for finishing your piece, and you'll walk away with a slice of carpentry heaven that looks way cooler to display in your home than a taxidermy animal. Trust.

Blake Sloane is the Workshop Director at the Rebuilding Exchange, where he leads the Rustic Workshop series, and teaches wood shop in the job training program. He is a carpenter, designer, and teacher who is fond of combing alleyways, thrift stores, and grandma's attic for salvaged materials to incorporate into his work and classes. He works to promote sustainability by re-purposing well-constructed objects from past generations. The end result often has a classic, rugged aesthetic, whereby the wear and tear marking the passage of time are celebrated. His work can be seen at blakesloane.com.
