Event Overview

Our farm is hosting another round of our Backyard Chicken Keeping class on Saturday, March 14th from 1-3 pm. Please spread the word to anyone who might be interested. The Fleischer Family Farm is an urban farm on the Colorado front range providing opportunities for the local community to source delicious nutrient-rich produce, cage-free eggs, and other cottage food items produced without the use of pesticides or synthetics. Through environmentally respectful practices, our family works tirelessly to be the community provider of quality farm products and your inspiration for continued education in knowing the life cycle of your food.

Have you ever wanted to keep a few chickens in your back yard but were just too intimidated by taking on the responsibility? Maybe you have one too many questions about the process and feel unprepared. This class aims to provide interested parties with the knowledge they'll need to start their own backyard flock. Topics such as the basics about chickens, coop preparation, food, supplements/treats, choosing the right bird, health issues and more will be covered in this two hour course led by your local farmer. So don't sit on the sideline any longer. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn about keeping chickens and start producing your own fresh eggs daily. Participants can look forward to spending a few hours at a local urban farm, getting hands on experience with birds and tours of the coop and will each walk away with a starter packet on raising birds, a note catcher used throughout the class and a number of different resources on books, documentaries, and chicken sourcing farms.

We always aim to make our classes fun and interactive.  Please feel free to bring a beer or two and enjoy learning a new skill.  We look forward to meeting you!

Overall, it was a very informative class and I received all of the information I was looking for. I am disappointed, however, since the class advertises, "What's Provided: A syllabus containing class notes and a plethora of resources for you as you start your chicken keeping journey. Farm-Fresh Eggs to take home. There will be a drawing and 2 students will walk away with a booklet on beginning chicken keeping." No one received any eggs to take home and there wasn't a drawing for 2 students to take home a book. Those were part of the reason I chose this class, so very disappointed in that.

This was an excellent, informative class that gave me a ton of practical information on all basic aspects of chicken owning. There were a lot of new facts as well as great tips for starting in our area and a bevy of additional resources to check out. I am glad I opted for this class as it made me feel much more prepared for chicken ownership.

The farm was so sweet, Paul was so humble and a down to earth funny guy and a great teacher. Had a syllabus and an agenda. Definitely a great class I learned so much about raising chickens. It is a great class for people wanting to get chickens as well as who already have them. I have three week old birds and it was such good information on choosing birds, coops and runs, feed, eggs, and health issues. Is an interactive class so any questions you have or anything to contribute is great. At the end we got to view the chickens and their home on the farm. Paul also have some great resources to continue learning.

It was a pleasure learning about chickens from Paul! He gave information that was highly applicable to raising chickens in this region, easy tricks, health things to look for, places to find free resources, recommended books and a living example of how chickens are cared for at his urban farm. He even gave us eggs to take home to try! Thanks Paul. I would love to take another class from you in the future!

This is a great class for anyone considering or planning on having backyard chickens. Paul is very knowledgeable on the subject and gave a great overview to help get started with owning chickens. I am more comfortable knowing what to expect after he outlined important information on selection, feeding, needs, and preventative measures to keep healthy birds.

Paul was great! He was full of information and very friendly. I was a little nervous with this being my first class at someones house but he made me feel right at home. I loved his enthusiasm for providing whole, clean food that is not treated with pesticides to his family and everyone that he distributes too. Great teacher, super nice person!

Paul said that this was his first Dabble class and that he was nervous...but he's a PRO!
He gives a good class...he's organized, informed and has an easy-going way about him. I learned a lot and had a great time!
He really knows a lot about the subject and fielded our rapid-fire questions with ease.
He can really "talk turkey" about chickens!
