Event Overview

Our farm is hosting another round of our Beekeeping Basics class on Saturday, April 11th, from 1-3pm. Please spread the word to anyone who might be interested. The Fleischer Family Farm is an urban farm on the Colorado front range providing opportunities for the local community to source delicious nutrient-rich produce, cage-free eggs, and other cottage food items produced without the use of pesticides or synthetics. Through environmentally respectful practices, our family works tirelessly to be the community provider of quality farm products and your inspiration for continued education in knowing the life cycle of your food.

If you have ever thought about keeping bees in your backyard to help pollinate your garden, improve the declining bee population or produce some of your own delicious honey, this class can give you the basics you'll need to get started. This class is developed for those who have no beekeeping experience and will discuss the basics in apiculture. We will go over general information about bees in your colony, hive types, tools needed, where/how to source your bees and basic care. This class is not a comprehensive beekeeping course, but will give any interested parties the opportunity to get a strong foundational knowledge in beekeeping.

All participants will leave with an informational packet on beekeeping, several resources for supplies and bees, and a note catcher used throughout the class to record any information discussed.  Students will also have an opportunity to go out into the farm and conduct a hive inspection with the farmer. Feel free to bring a beer or two to the class and have some fun learning a new skill.

Great experience. Class was casual, homey and very informative. Paul (who is a high school teacher) has a nice teaching style and is very open to questions and discussion. A lot of good information in a short time. Getting to see his hives and watch him pull the bee covered and honey filled frames was fun.

Very informative. His farm is really impressive, not only for the bees, but for the many uses to which he puts burlap bags

This was a great intro to bee keeping. Full of useful information that can get anyone interested in bee keeping. Wish I could have taken it earlier in the year and been able to get some bees for 2019. I guess will get ready for 2020.

A great introductory class from a knowledgeable teacher. There was quite a bit of information packed into this class but Paul laid it out in a logical way and he did a great job answering questions. I would highly recommend this class with Paul for an introduction to bee keeping.
