Have an abundance of produce springing forth from your garden? Sick of throwing away half of your basil or parsley after purchasing from the store? Freeze it.
Freezers are an often overlooked tool for preserving. In this class we will go over the basics for preserving herbs, vegetables and fruits from your garden or CSA box so you can enjoy local produce from your freezer all winter long.
We will also discuss and demonstrate methods for freezing baked goods, homemade stock, soup, meat, tomato sauce, pesto and jam to avoid freezer burn as well as thawing for best texture. Finally, we will prepare empanadas for freezing and sample the delicious results.

Breanne designed and built a rooftop farm in the city nearly five years ago, where she grows all kinds of fruits and vegetables and tries not to let anything go to waste by preserving everything. For the past six years, Breanne,has taught adult and youth classes in organic agriculture, cider-brewing, composting, canning, grafting fruit trees, fermenting and urban foraging.
