Prereqs & Preparation


Prerequisites Install Anaconda beforehand. Tip: Scroll to your operating system version and click on the install button for Anaconda with Python 2.7. Note: We'll be using Python version 2.7 in this workshop. If you are using a PC, please install the git for windows terminal.terminal beforehand. Additional Preparation Optional: Install a text editor like Sublime Text 3. or Atom.on your computer. Technical Considerations: For students on Windows, you’ll need Microsoft Windows 8/10 (32- or 64-bit). For those with Macs, you’ll need the Mac OS X 10.8.5 or higher, up to 10.11.4 (El Capitan).

About the Instructor

Ivan Hernandez Instructor,
DePaul University


Dr. Ivan Hernandez is a researcher and educator with a passion for teaching others how to use statistical and computational techniques to answer questions about complex social phenomenon. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Ph.D in Social & Industrial Psychology, and a Master's degree in Applied Measurement. Ivan's research incorporates machine learning, text mining, agent-based modeling, numeric simulations, and spatial analysis to study phenomenon pertaining to organizational, cultural, regional, and cognitive outcomes, authoring numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. He has over 5 years of teaching experience, instructing undergraduate courses at the University of Illinois, and managing the NASA Data Science Internship at Northwestern University. When not teaching or conducting research, he enjoys going to farmers' markets, drive-in theaters, custard shops, and enjoying all the other wonderful things the Midwest offers.
