Event Overview

If you are looking to make your own, unique ceramic plate, then this is the class for you! We will be working on clay plates while using shiny gloss glazes to paint on design elements and decorations.

NO artistic ability required! If you can imagine it, I can help you create it! You may bring photos for inspiration, or use the stencils and materials I have available to create your design. Glazes are a solution of ground up glass mixed with a liquid binder so they can be applied in a "painterly" fashion. They can also be marbleized, splattered, or used for outlining. It's truly an awesome material!

The next day I will fire your plate in a kiln that reaches 1800 degrees. It will be so exciting to unwrap your shiny, bright original plate! We will be using food safe glazes, so be ready to impress your guests!

Materials & Supplies:

Clay plate, handmade earthenware, You can choose from either a 12" square plate, or 12" round
Food Safe Gloss Glazes
Paint Brushes and sponges for glaze application
Design materials, stencils, pencils, etc.

Katie Netti is the Owner of Urban Oil Ceramics. She is a Cincinnati raised, New York educated and Chicago residing (Logan Square) artist and high school art teacher. She sells work through her website as well as through several retail stores throughout Chicago. Katie is a multi-media artist, using both traditional and radical materials. She has many creation outlets from painting to book binding to photography, sharpies, glass and ceramics, most intended for functional use. Everything is handmade and she intrigued by the use of found and recycled materials within her work.

My daughter and I enjoyed this class very much. Katie is a fantastic teacher / host. She explains everything with great detail and gives you many options and ideas to create your design. We felt very comfortable from the very moment we walked in her studio. This was our very first dabble class and we loved every aspect of it.
