Event Overview

Objective: Create a still life drawing using contour line, emphasizing detail in objects and space. Color will be used to describe the positive and negative space in a balanced composition using water color pencils.

Tuesday 2/3/14 Class One:

Complete several drawing exercises to begin developing right brain drawing skills, including upside down drawing and blind contour drawings.

Tuesday 2/10/14 Class Two:

Discuss composition, rule of thirds, horizon line, cropping, balance, focal point/emphasis, movement, odd # objects, and variety. Look at artwork with subject matter of still life and line (art history). Set up a personalized still life, using provided objects and/or personal objects. Use a viewfinder to create 2-3 different contour drawings showing a variety of balanced compositions.

Tuesday 2/17/14 Class Three:

Choose your most successful composition. Redraw this arrangement on water color paper using contour line. This is a detailed line drawing from life, showing textures, edges, spaces. *A photograph of the still life will be taken for line drawing completion at home.

Tuesday 2/24/14 Class Four:

COLOR! Practice common water color pencil techniques. Fill in all objects with the pencils and your choice of colors using contrasting values to create depth. This may be taken home for additional work before the class critique.

Tuesday 3/3/14 Class Five:

Matt the final piece in preparation for the class critique. BYOB!
