This class focuses on the development and management strategies used in the creation of new business ventures.
You will research entrepreneurial case studies, and will discuss processes used to generate ideas, develop business plans, consolidate resources in order to finance projects.
We will:
*discuss the opportunities and common problems associated with starting and operating a small business
*describe the traits of successful entrepreneurs and the critical role they play in the process of invention and innovation
*organize business expectations and develop programs to bring them about
*explain the disciplines and specific steps in planning a business
*write and present a one-page business plan
This class will be taught using a combination of lecture and collaborative learning techniques. Class time will involve lecture, guided discussions, student presentations, and structured individual/group-based activities. It may also include an entrepreneurial guest speaker.

Image Consultant and Fashion Stylist, Nancy Plummer, brings over twenty years experience in the fashion industry. Her consulting firm, Fine Threads, Inc., has assisted individuals express their personality through their clothing by offering one-on-one fashion analysis, closet consultations, and personal shopping. Additionally, Fine Threads, Inc. supports schools, corporations, and non-profit organizations by offering corporate workshops and seminars ranging from Professional Presence to Wardrobe Planning.
Nancy’s wide and varied retail career positions began after her graduation from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a Bachelor of Science in Retailing. Her previous positions have included Buyer, Store Manager, Manufacturers Rep, Account Executive, and Program Chair for the Fashion Design Department at The International Academy of Design & Technology (IADT) in Chicago, IL. Currently, in addition to her own fashion styling business, Nancy is an Adjunct Faculty member at The Illinois Institute of Art Chicago in the Fashion Design Department. Nancy also teaches a series of Image Consulting classes in the Continuum Department at Loyola University.
Nancy completed her Masters’ degree in Training and Development in December 2006 from Roosevelt University, Chicago, IL.
Nancy’s first book, Your Personal Style, was released in February 2009 from Fairchild Publications.
